USEFUL INFORMATION

THE CLIMATE

The Aosta Valley has an alpine climate with cold winters and cool summers. During the winter months, the avergage daily temperature can easily reach zero centigrade and can fall further during periods of intense cold. Fortunately, the variation in altitude between the mountains and the sunny valleys which they surround and dominate creates many different areas with pleasant micro-climates. Summers are fresh and windy but the rain level can be quite high. In the winter snow falls over the entire region, and in the summer rain falls in the valleys with snow continuing to fall on the mountain tops.

The region’s internal road network is also well developed with access to the side valleys open all year round. All areas of the valley fall within a maximum radius of 130 km from the centrally located city of Aosta so most locations in the region can be reached in no more than 1 hour.
