Bataille des Reines

The Bataille des Reines is a typical expression of the rural life in the high altitude pastures of these mountains. Over the years, the Bataille has become more than a competition: it is a great festival that attracts thousands of spectators, and a tradition which has been passed down from one generation to another. The event is a series of harmless confrontations in which the cows display their aggressive instinct to determine the hierarchy within each herd.
The spectacular regional grand final takes place in the Croix Noir Arena in Aosta, where the queen of the valley if chosen.
The Bataille des Reines takes place all year long; the final event is held in autumn.
