The Matterhorn’s picturesque peak is perfectly reflected in crystal clear waters of the Blue Lake: a small body of water fed by pure springs, surrounded by century-old larch trees, in a valley of morainal origin. The lake’s name is due to a type of algae that lives at the bottom of the lake, which reflect this particular colour.
Not far from the Blue Lake are the Layet Lakes: three differently coloured spring ponds set in the lush green pastures overlooking the valley.
The postcard image of the mountain reflected in the lake is known around the world.
